Le Pays du Revermont
Le Pays du RevermontPoligny, Arbois and Salins-les-Bains
|
Poligny is one of the places most characteristic of the Revermont region. From Les Rochers de la Croix du Dan or de la Corniche, the steeples, towers and old roofs of the town look beautiful.
First a Sequani town, then Gallo-Roman (the Mont Pavé way, mosaics), it was dominated and artistically influenced successively by the Holy Roman Germanic Empire, the Duchy of Bourgogne, Spain and finally France, hence the variety of its heritage.
Arbois is a town with a lot to offer: the capital of Jura wines, the first wine-producing area to be awarded the AOC label in France, “Petite Cité Comtoise de Caractère” (small Comtois town of character), “Site Remarquable du Goût” (place of particular gastronomic interest) and the home of Louis Pasteur…
A town that offers you a varied programme of activities through its cultural department, the MJC (cultural and youth centre), its associations and the tourist information centre: tours of the town, visits to the church of Saint-Just, exhibitions, theatre, music, cultural trips, summer events, sport and leisure activities…
Protected by its two forts: Belin and Saint-André, Salins-les-Bains, the “Petite Cité Comtoise de Caractère” (small Comtois town of character) invites you to explore and take your time. Here, water, the source of life, springs from the ground, rich in beneficial salt. A fortified town, Salins-les-Bains earned its fame and power in the 13th century from salt, the “white gold” of the era, which it mined and traded. In the 18th century, brine from Salins-les-Bains was carried to the Arc-et-Senans Royal Saltworks via a wooden conduit which was known as the “saumoduc”. The La Saunerie Salinoise is at the origins of the thermal baths created in 1854. The second largest town of Franche-Comté behind Besançon until modern times, its public and religious buildings bear witness to its glorious past.
